Boom Truck Operator Certification!
In August 2009, OSHA released a new final rule regarding training for crane operators. As part of that rule, those who operate boom trucks capable of lifting more than 2000 pounds are required to be certified as operators. This will include all who operate boom trucks at electric utilities subject to OSHA safety standards. The NUITF has recently certified a number of training instructors at its locations to conduct a training class to prepare experienced boom truck operators (which include many linemen) for the qualification test, up to 75 tons lifting capacity at most locations. Our instructors will be teaching the curriculum offered by the Crane Institute of America, an OSHA-approved training program. Our classes will also include testing, both written and practical, which is required for full certification. Many of the classes we hold will be able to accommodate individuals from other companies, not just the employees from our host utilities. Those who successfully complete the training and testing will receive fully portable certification. Watch this space for further updates and class schedules!
